All Senior-Serving Community Partners

The Alameda County Public Health Department, Public Health Emergency Preparedness program has received a small grant from the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) to implement emergency preparedness strategies for community-dwelling older adults.  We have identified “Action Options” from the CDC guide “Identifying Vulnerable Older Adults and Legal Options for Increasing Their Protection During All-Hazards Emergencies [1]” as required by the grant, to build capacity for protecting vulnerable, community-dwelling older adults during all hazards emergencies. This is an exciting opportunity for our county to focus on preparedness and response for older adults.

This is a short-term grant that requires immediate action and has several required components:

  • We must convene a cross-sector leadership team composed of various community partners to include the area agency on aging
  • Attend an expenses-paid kick-off meeting on February 21, 2013 in Washington DC that includes representatives from our cross-sector leadership team
  • Characterize the community-dwelling older adult population in our jurisdiction
  • Identify the vulnerable, community-dwelling older adults in our jurisdiction

There will also be opportunities to:

  • Interact with and learn from other grantees throughout the project period, including the kick-off meeting and conference calls
  • Participate in virtual technical assistance to support implementation of project activities
  • Share our work/resources on http://www.cdc.gov/aging/emergency

Please let us know as soon as possible if you are interested in participating on the Cross-Sector Leadership Team and if you are interested and available to attend the kick-off meeting on February 21st, in Washington D.C.
