which he presented at the 14th Annual International Conference on Hoarding and Cluttering.

Thanks to EBMUD and the Lafayette Community Foundation, the stage will be able to provide a venue for many upcoming performances at the Reservoir.

Originally conceived by Lafayette resident and Rotarian Dick Holt to help our local schools. With the addition of the new stage, the show will go on and on for years to come. This year’s event includes legendary Bob Athayde conducting the Stanley Symphonic Band, the Stanley Concert Gold Band, the concert Green band all together. Mo Levich (recent Jefferson Award recipient) leading the Big Band of Rossmoor, Norm Dea and the Acalanes High School Symphonic Band and Brian Pardo leading the Bentley Jazz Ensemble. A special highlight this year is the invitation to Oakland’s Westlake Middle School, to play with the Stanley Bands. Directed by Mr. Randy Porter.

Along with the music, food and beverages will be available. You can pack a picnic and don’t forget your beach chairs and blankets.

Family Care-Group Support Program is a free and confidential support group service available to help family caregivers and professional caregivers take care of their loved ones. The Care-Group will provide assistance and learning experience in regards to Alzheimer’s care or related disease.

ADG Referral Services Inc, in partnership with Dr. Mimi’s Audilogy Clinic, is excited to offer a FREE Educational Class on “Hear and Understand Better” to be presented by Dr. Mimi herself, an accomplished audiologist who is passionate about helping hard of hearing people. Dr. Mimi Salamat holds a Ph.D in Audiology with a minor in counseling. She also has two Master’s degrees, one in Speech-Language Pathology and in Audiology. Throughout her professional career, Dr. Mimi has trained many audiologists and take care of numerous patients with hearing, tinnitus, and balance disorders by prescribing hearing aids, auditory training, and rehabilitation techniques.

During Dr. Mimi’s presentation, she will cover topics on:

• How to hear and understand better
• Helpful communication tips for the health care professionals, as well as, family and friends of hard of hearing people

Based on research by experts, this new 6-week course from the Alzheimer’s Association will provide clinical level training for family caregivers. Many caregivers would like to go beyond the introductory education offerings, that is that opportunity.

Graduate with Improved:

• Skills to assess the abilities of your loved one with dementia & adjust your approach over time
• Confidence to set and achieve caregiving goals
• Strategies to manage stress, make decisions, and manage activities of daily living

The Program - The Savvy Caregiver Training Program provides over 12-hours of face to face training with dementia experts, a caregiver manual and CD-ROM.

When – April 13, 20, 27 & May 4, 11, & 18. Beginning 1:00PM – 3:00PM

Fee – $75.00 for six-week course to cover cost of materials. Scholarship available.

• Medicine Cabinet – Clean the medicine cabinet and check all items for expiration dates. Are the medications stored in their own containers? Are they stored in a cool, dry place? Discard any unused medications.
• Pantry – Clean and check all items for expiration dates. Wipe off counters to clear from any spilled items. Organize cabinets to make frequently-used items more accessible, and throw away outdated food from the pantry or refrigerator.
• Smoke Alarms – Check batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. Run a test to ensure they’re working. Check flashlights and battery operated radio in case of emergency.
• Hallway - Remove clutter to reduce the risk of trips and falls. Also, remove unnecessary furniture that obstructs the traffic flow. Check lighting and replace any burned-out or dim bulbs.
• Emergency Plans – Program the phone with emergency contacts on speed dial. Work with neighbors to help identify problems before they happen or when something has gone wrong and help is needed.
• Check the Home and Yard for Any Potential Hazards. Be sure that all stairs, railings, walkways and other areas to move through are safe.  Repair any unsafe areas immediately preventing possible injury.
• Streamline Possessions. As we get older, the amount of “stuff” we accumulate seems to grow exponentially.  Gently go through some very sentimental things with your loved one and review what really needs to be saved, disposed or donate. This will be another way in remembering “good ‘ol days” and many seniors enjoy passing down sentimental items to family members.

on how to recognize and prevent identity theft, discuss other common
scams and forms of fraud, and provide information on referral
sources and where to get help. There will also be a demonstration
on identifying and using e-government resources to help
prevent identity theft.
