Fotonovela: Do it for them! But also for yourself

The National Diabetes Education Program’s (NDEP)new publication, Fotonovela: Do it for them! But also for yourself , helps Hispanic/Latina women at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes and their families. The visually attractive and engaging story – told in both English and Spanish – uses role models to demonstrate how women can reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes through increased physical activity , making healthy food choices, and weight loss. This format is especially effective for people with low literacy. You can use this fotonovela to:
•Encourage healthy behaviors.

•Teach steps toward positive choices.

•Support face-to-face education by lay-health workers.

•Reinforce clinical recommendations.

•Initiate discussion among a group or at meetings.

•Encourage self-identification of risk factors.

•Raise awareness.

•Support community education outreach.
